Sudoku Variant9: Anti Knight Sudoku

Standard Sudoku is too easy? Try this: the same digit cannot repeat a knight's move apart. That's it — one extra rule. But the chess constraint ripples through the entire board, creating deduction chains you have never seen before. Every digit placement protects its knight's perimeter, and the web of invisible connections makes every solve feel like a tactical battle.

♞ Anti-Knight Sudoku — Chess Rules, Sudoku Logic

♞ Same digit cannot occupy two cells a knight's move apart (like chess). Standard 3×3 boxes still apply. That invisible L-shape constraint changes everything.

What Makes Anti-Knight Sudoku Different? The knight's move constraint adds an invisible second layer to every cell. Placing a 5 at row 3, col 3 means no other 5 can occupy any position a knight's L-shape away — that is 8 forbidden cells per placement. Standard scanning techniques still work, but you must think in chess patterns alongside rows, columns, and boxes.

Who Will Love This:

  • Chess players who enjoy applying tactical thinking to puzzles
  • Advanced solvers looking for a constraint that genuinely changes deduction flow
  • CTC fans — Anti-Knight is a staple of the Cracking the Cryptic channel

Pro Tip: Focus on digits that appear most frequently — placing them first removes the most knight-move possibilities across the board.

Select a difficulty, click a cell, and fill digits. Wrong entries turn red instantly. Completed rows, columns, and boxes glow gold.
